Like, if they're some super strapped grad students who have only so much in the budget, just come out and say it. I've worked hits for requesters that say "Hi, I'm so an so, a grad student. I can only offer 50 cents for this task that will take 15 minutes, so please only take it if you're interested in helping my research"

The mit guys say "this is super critical research that will enable us to sell advanced algorithms for self driving cars and save a zillion lives a year." Unlikely, but if true, your funding should reflect that and so should the compensation.

Pros:
