    Mountain lions have freaked me out since I was a kid. I had one of those survival scenario handbooks, and it recommended looking as big as possible to intimidate one off...and I'm not a big person.

    The way I die is like, Frank bringing back a mountain lion who he thinks is his new pal and watching it eat me or Skeeter just attempting to fight one while I try and drag him off and then...getting mauled in the process.

    Or I fall doing something stupid. Me? Do stupid shit? Totally never!

    FYI, if you don't get them regularly, many cable and satellite providers have an HBO & Cinemax Free Preview this weekend April 20-23 to launch the second season of Westworld. Some that definitely have it are DirecTV, Dish Network, AT&T U-Verse, Time Warner, RCN, Optimum, Frontier FIOS, and Sling.

    I'll just try the method they taught to deal with bears to deal with cougars. See you just walk through the woods making a shit ton of noise and scream "HEY BEAR, HEY BEAR" over and over. So far a bear has neither tried to befriend me nor kill me. Other hikers I'm sure have wanted to do the latter. I don't do it when I'm hunting though, gotta be quiet and what not.

    General cougar advice is stop and look around in every direction every few minutes. They're ambush hunters and will avoid face-to-face confrontations and generally won't approach if they think you might see them.

    If I'm not with Skeeter, who I swear was born to be a noise maker on a trail, I generally sing to myself if I can't see people for this very reason. Of course, one day I will eventually meet a bear who wants to be serenaded and then I'll really be upriver without a paddle!

    If I ever go missing, it's because a bear has made me its wife and I'm prolly super duper dead.

    Your method sounds fun too :emoji_joy:

    I went camping in northern michigan with my girlfriend last year, and she was reading a bunch of shit about bears before we left - so she learned about saying "Hey bear!" thing. So ever since then, I do it randomly like when we're in the middle of walmart and shit. it pisses her off so much, and it's so much fun. She gets embarrassed extremely easy. It's awesome.

    See, my worry is just that a cougar will see me and go, "I can take that Grinch. She's smaller than I am. I will tenderize her by shaking her vigorously."

    When I was probably about 13 my dad took me with him to check the deer blinds out in the marsh. It was technically hunting season but we were going out there on a weekday just to check things out. Suddenly this huge buck shows up and my dad pulls up his gun and puts his hand out for me to stop and shut up, and I said, rather loudly, "you aren't gonna shoot him, are you?????" and the buck took off. I still don't think my dad has forgiven me. I think he literally dragged me back to the boat.

    I'm usually on a pretty good lookout and in reality when I'm hunting I know that the cougars are much more interested in the deer, sheep, and just more curious about me. I just look for the tracks with no claws and stay out of what they consider their territory and they'll leave me alone. For the most part they aren't too dangerous as long as they don't feel threatened or are wounded. An injured cougar will pretty much try to kill anything it can. I did have a mama cat steal a duck before my dog could retrieve it. I wasn't gonna go any further upstream after that :emoji_sweat_smile:
