    back when I had charter they gave the modems out for free. They would only charge if you used their wifi router that sucked anyways.

    suddenlink wanted me to rent my modem but I had a customer service person who said "hey it is cheaper to buy your own". 2.5 years later I am glad I did. I think I paid 159-179 for mine and it is one of the better ones.
