I SAW THE DEAD THIS MORNING

So, a few weeks ago we lost our black and white semi-feral cat, Tuxedo. A neighbor told us he say something that might have looked like him on the side of the road.
Today, I went outside early while my dad was putting bird seeds in the feeder. At the back of the property, a black and white cat, similar to ours, came out of the underbrush. I called it out and it stayed still for about 15 seconds then scurried away into the underbrush again. I couldn't get a pair of binoculars fast enough to confirm it was him or not. It made me wonder if cats can get amnesia after an accident, fight, or other event.
