I have coached my fair share of baseball and hockey, but under the age of 10? Never again....especially not my own kid.

They were looking for volunteers and I had to decide which strategy to employ to get out of that. 1) Pretend you don't know English. 2) Look away and slump...the goal here is become the size of a squirrel to avoid being seen. 3) Look directly at them, which flips the whole script on them and they think you're a freak (I used to do this in high school English class when they were looking for volunteer readers...teachers think you've already read if you make eye contact with them.) 4) The stare ahead.

I went with option 4, as made famous in Seinfeld. It's like when you're stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, and you're tired of being the nice guy, so you pull up tight on the car in front of you and stare straight ahead, even though you can feel the eyes of the driver trying to merge burning holes into you.
