They are 100% commission so they only make money on deals that go all the way to closing. Typically listing agent gets 6% of sale price, which is split evenly (usually) with the buyer's agent, a cut goes to their broker, and then they have to withhold taxes.

Just do it. It happens all the time and it's no sweat. It sucks for them but it's par for the course in that business. Unless they've shown you a bunch of houses they probably have not done that much work TBH. Even if they were helping you look for listings, that's automatic more or less.
