    With future technology we could go maybe 20% the speed of light. I'd put my body in cyrogenic slumber too just like Walt Disney.

    Our sun won't turn into a red giant for billions of years. However, Earth may have around one billion years remaining, according to some sources, due to an increase in brightness that will cause our oceans to evaporate. When they evaporate, they'll trap high-temperature moisture in our atmosphere which will, in turn, cause more of the ocean to evaporate. We will be knocked out of the habitable zone; Mars will take our place there.

    The technology we develop will have to be extremely novel. Someone will have to magically stumble upon it. We can't travel faster than the speed of light, or even at it. The closer you get to the speed of light, the higher your mass until mass becomes infinite and the energy required become infinite. It looks like we would have to discover alternative methods of travel. We can get to a respectable fraction of the speed of light, perhaps.

    @Tripsa: The 44 million-year travel time quoted earlier was based on a jet's speed, not a rocket's.
