$350 for an Intel i5 isn't the worst

 

coming back home and discover I got captha on the $45 tedlab: fml!!!

 

It is a low tdp i5 though. Closer to the laptop chips if I recall correctly.

On a side note... how many displays can you hook up to that thing? Imho if you can't hook up multiple displays I wouldn't ever personally use it for turking.

Another thing to note with the NUC or NUK whatever one is correct.. as well is that if you just pick up a cheap prebuilt you can throw hardrives in it for extra storage on the cheap while the NUC you basically need to use external HDDs over USB and that doesn't work as well.

It is a wonderful device for a HTPC and I have considered buying one for that.. but for working I still would use a desktop personally.

(Also with a desktop unless the case is too small you can swap out the power supply and add a new GPU later down the line to turn the machine into a decent gaming machine if you care about that)

 

don't care about gaming just need something that is going to handle multiple monitors and my gazillion tabs

Well if you want a bunch of tabs then it will be cheaper to get a desktop and then throw a bunch of ram into it. The intel nuc only has one or two ram slots if I recall correctly and it uses laptop ram.

With the desktops you will likely start with a decent amount of ram and have 2 slots open to easily add more later.

Yeah there are definitely better options. I like the NUC because it's decently powerful and very small so it can be put anywhere and is portable.
