I'm digging into mturk related userscripts and noticing that to achieve the same result, some use jquery and some do not.

Any advice for a beginner as to which way to go?, if the goal is just creating or adapting basic HIT specific for mturk?

I realize it's late, but I figured it would be better to ask when it's slow, Thanks

At the level that you're trying to do things, it doesn't matter. Most of what you're likely trying to do only requires a pretty basic knowledge of Javascript. Jquery is just a faster way to select things and get them done. Kind of like a coding Swiss army knife. Jquery also doesn't run as cleanly but again, for a simple script you're hardly going to notice a difference.

Codeacademy has an awesome free Javascript course.

 

And to directly answer your question, learn javascript first. Jquery is going to come super easily afterwards.

 

One of the trickiest parts for me was how to get the include. I think I used to click get page source instead of get frame source and nothing ever worked and I'd get so frustrated lol.

LOL, yeah, I am getting frustrated as well, I tried using a script shared by a generous turkerhub member a few months back on a hit that no longer works (at least not for me) and I am getting frustrated as hell trying to figure out why, but nothing worthwhile is easy eh?

Hey that's the best way to learn is to dig in and mess around. As long as you click "view frame source" on the HIT you can get experimental and do what ya like. If you make it through that course you'll come out with a lot better of an understanding of what you're looking at.
