is it legal for someone to sign an app for a place and have some one else move into it assuming the person just makes their payments to the person who signed for the place initially?

 

AFAIK that sounds kind of questionable, but a lot of places will take cosigners, and the process is pretty similar to what you just described.

 

That would be subletting, and it varies by the terms you signed onto with the lease.

depends on some things around me. if you're a student its totally acceptable for like your parents to do this for you. if not you just call an apartment or rental and the first thing you say is "hey do you guys accept cosigns?" and they'll let you know.

 

If worked out with landlord I suppose yes but here 6 months ago had to evict a chick over it. Her Mom came and applied and got the apartment in her name and no mention of others.... never saw the lady again but who moved in was her daughter and boyfriend. They were problems from day 1.

We suspect the Mom didn't want them at home with her so did this....

Yeah the owner would of let it go if they weren't such shitheads.

 

Also worth noting to have someone on my name for a rental lease I'd have to really trust them cuz an eviction murders your credit.

i’m looking at moving into a small house but i technically don’t make 3x the rent (close though). so I guess it’ll all depend on who the landlord is and how willing they are to work with me. i totally get if they pass on me

hypothetically if i did get a cosigner i would offer them a few months rent up front so they at least know i have a little money stashed. and i’m a pretty tame person so eviction is 0% of happening in that regard

 

iirc that number includes if you have car payments and other things. If you're debt free then generally they have more wiggle room for you. It'd also be easier to just offer a bigger deposit to the landlord if possible. I know that'd make me more willing to "gamble" so to say.
