Personally, I use the metric exactly like @leafs4_cup said. It's useful for my turk worker growth and development, so to speak. Most of us know that our times won't be anywhere near @Randomacts , but we can guesstimate our own times based on what his (checked the profile to make sure of pronoun ) happens to be; the same with everybody really.. It's not overtly competitive, so the info doesn't come across as an admonishment, more like a performance evaluation (at least to me). Frankly, I love knowing approximately howl long a task takes and having an approximate hourly rate before I even begin a task has helped me not waste time on a junk hit on SO many occasions, fwiw. Also, @ChrisTurk , knowing this: "Tbh I far prefer times that are in the relaxed/avg pacing because they're way more representative of the majority of turkers so the more I can get the better" should alleviate (and does for me) any issue about submitting reviews, imo.
