I've always wondered where the entitled next generation comes from. You know, who expect to be given a corner office immediately, only do the work that "feels right" for them in their safe space, and demand organic snacks in the break room. Is it a failing of society, or parents who never learn to tell their children no?

I'll note all my kids are very well behaved. Otherwise, they don't get whatever Ramen noodles get stuck in my beard or, more importantly, the time they say they crave, out of chains, when they're allowed to walk around, use the bathroom, and sometimes, if they're really good, allowed to look out the window. There's a playground out there, and while I'll never let them go, it does give them hope. But, then, it's time for them to get back to doing ScoutIts for me, because those pennies aren't going to pick up themselves up. #angelinajolie

I had a weekend job starting at 13 and was told I had to kick in a percent to the family.
When I turned driving age I found out Mom just saved those contributions and I got the money back for a car
I really should have learned something from that

 

I think it's a combination of instant gratification and changing social norms. I mean, spoiled kids have always existed, but it seems like they're so much louder due to the way people communicate now.

 

Back when I was your age we didn't have the cybersex boxes in the mall. We had to log into our 'computers' and initiate contact without any assistance.

 

We all know I have thoughts on this but I am down to 1 forum now so I best just go lick a window instead of typing.

 

True; and, I get every generation looks at the next (few, in my case, cause I'm old and fat just like @MechaTurk, and not just on TV) and ascribes laziness and stupidity to them, but still.

Back in my day, we ate the McDonalds out of the styrofoam, and by golly, we liked it. There's a seagull in a landfill somewhere that has a home today in one because of my generation's embracing of unfettered capitalism.

You know, it's weird, adulting: I eat terribly (really, Ramen, but lots of pasta, or occasionally the Church of The ChrisTurk Crockpot recipes) but every few months I get a craving for veggies and real food. I just assumed everyone must, though, I fully acknowledge the valid life choice of mostly thin mints; for me, it's those Lindt truffles and bacon flavored Ritz with peanut butter.

You're not wrong. I also think that there are a lot more spoiled kids nowadays. Used to be that the rich kids were spoiled, because their parents could afford it. Today, we have so many parents that are busting their asses in two, three, four jobs just to give their kids "the lives they never had" instead of building character and making them earn things on their own.

If I knew I put my parents in a situation where they were working to provide "extra" for me, I'd eat roadkill and drink my own piss.

 

Has ANYONE written a script for these?

 

When my sister was a junior in college, my dad gave her a car. And then when that one broke down years later, my mom gave her a car.

Ah well, that's life. I bought my own car when I was 21. I'm not entitled to jack shit, ya know? I just cannot imagine ever acting that way growing up. Yeesh. I also didn't have health insurance and dandy stuff like that while my sister did, but that's just how life goes sometimes. It would not have occured to me to demand fancy organics. I just wanted basic stuff that other kids had.

 

Do they suck? I don't have the qual. They look basically untouched and they showed up hours ago?
