One time someone got a bit upset when I used the word "crook" to mean "feeling sick". Can't remember the exact sentence, but you can see that could have the potential to get awkward.

There was another phrase I used where someone thought I was talking about wanting to have sex with them, which was awkward because it was in front of my wife. I believe I said I was going to hit her up.
