I kept going through the post quoting things expecting to get to a "phew, we're safe" moment but nope.. it just kept getting worse. Wtf @laby LOL

I kept introducing people who expressed maybe wanting a pet or liking cats to Scrags.

Some random person: I' ve been thinking about maybe getting something for home but dogs are a bit too much time.

Me: DO YOU LIKE CATS?

Random person: Yeah, a bit.

Me: DO YOU WANT A CAT?

Random person: ...maybe. I was gonna go visit a shelter soon.

Me: COME TO MY BEDROOM! I HAVE TO SHOW YOU A CAT! COME PET MY CAT!...Oh, that sounds bad. THERE IS A REAL CAT BACK THERE! HIS NAME IS SCRAGGLY BUTT AND HE WAS FERAL BUT I SWEAR HE'S MOSTLY NICE!

 

If he pees in the house, wipe it up with a paper towel or something, immediately take him outside and put the paper towel on the ground and use a command word like "potty." Also, don't forget to use an enzyme cleaner on where he went, or he'll keep trying to go back there.

If possible, try to take him out preemptively and if he does go outside, praise the shit out of him and give him a treat. I put a bell up for the puppy to ring, and every time I took her outside, I'd hit the bell with her paw, and within a few days she was hitting it herself. It was a good way to associate the bell with going outside, and then the praising is for associating outside with going to the bathroom. If he tries to play out there instead, bring him back in, at least until he gets the hang of outside meaning it's time to pee. If you also keep associating the command word with it, you can eventually get him to go on command.
