Super late here, but in case anyone REALLY wants to stop their windows updates.........

Call them and Grinch them out for three hours. They will magically guide you on how to change the settings.
Except don't ask me how because I don't remember what I did.

The laptop I recently gave away would never update properly and I would be stuck in a never ending loop of the damn thing just trying to reboot itself every. single. time. it tried updating. The call center tried telling me there's no way to stop the updates but that just isn't true.

Good luck though. It took three hours and four separate calls before it was finally stopped permanently. They tried telling me the laptop would eventually break because it will become too far outdated but nah. My little brother has it now and he hasn't had any issues. Runs just fine.
