It affects more than RAM usage though. That's the problem. It can affect CPU and memory as well. It's also a redundant process if you have an SSD.

Just to pre-warn you, to completely get rid of it we had to edit our registries but both of our computers are running excellent now.
Have you disabled superfetch? My SO and I were having the same problem until we removed that from our computers.
