Gentoo is still a demon of it's own and slackware is meh. Everyone just install funtoo and call it a day. Edit: let's all just switch to FreeBSD

I definitely wouldn't recommend Arch itself to a newb, but something like Manjaro or Antergos is definitely new user friendly.
I run linux, specifically arch and it gets the job done for the most part. If anything nothing is different.
