    Suck it up, buttercup.
    The alternative on the other end is creating a CPU that will never let you win.
    Wouldn't you rather win all of the time than never have a chance of winning?

    Winning is ultimately meaningless if I don't have to put in effort for that win, I learn nothing from that. Inversely, losing is also meaningless if the opponent is unbeatable no matter what, so ultimately both are a waste of time.

    and that is why tic-tac-toe is only interesting to children

    The project may not have been a waste of time for ,, since it could have been a way to explore an idea, even if the product of that idea doesn't have any purpose in itself.

    So by your statement the exploration of an idea is a waste of time no matter the outcome?

    You've clearly never been around for a tic tac toe battle in my house. We take that shit too seriously.

    A lot of things in our house get decided by a tic tac toe/checkers type battle to the death.

    !! We were playing outdoor checkers at the airport once, and when Matt realized he couldn't win, he slapped the entire board off the table and stomped away in a huge rage. It was amazing, I made a grown man have a meltdown in public over checkers :emoji_joy: Matt's such a sore loser.

    Checkers I could understand, but if both people know how to play tic-tac-toe perfectly, it will always end in a draw.

    We both use what you could call unfair methods when we play tic tac toe.

    We can't play giant jenga anymore though, too many projectiles.

    Welcome to Tic Tac Toe.

    I hate the game, too, but my hands were tied when it came to making the game interesting.

    Blame freeCodeCamp for requiring me to implement such a boring game in their curriculum.

    I did it because it was one of the requirements for my front-end development certification on freeCodeCamp:

    https://www.freecodecamp.org/,

    But I did check for win conditions in a moderately novel way.

    I defined these layouts:

    Code:
    * * *
    - - -
    - - -

    - - -
    * * *
    - - -

    * - -
    - * -
    - - *

    And then checked for their variants by just "spinning" the board.

    I had to use a stool last time we played, cause it was well over my head. Matt nudged into my stool hard enough that I knocked over the entire tower and a few of our friends were afraid I would knock him out with a giant jenga piece.

    Matt is what you'd call excessively competitive. And of course, instead of re-assuring his ego, I do everything in my power to make sure he loses at meaningless games so I can laugh at how pissy he gets.
