For real. Daddy Long Legs here are the only spiders I don't lose my kittens over.

I will say, one time I saw a preying mantis going murderkill on a black widow. I did manage to control my fear long enough to watch that in fascination and wonder if I can order truckloads of those to come live in my yard during the spring.

Each spring I pull up my big girl panties and go out at dusk with a larger trigger sprayer of spider death liquid and spray any black widow that has appeared. That seems to cut down on how many I get all summer.

 

Praying Mantis' are awesome, I wanted a pet one once.

 

Ma cats give the spiders gentle soft touches of reassurance, and as soon as they're comfortable I sneak attack with a paper towel.

 

Zorak was pretty cool, I'd imagine a real mantis would be just as cool.

The thing I call a daddy long legs isn't a spider I don't think. I'm now confused. It only has one body segment and six legs. it's like a little brown spot with really long legs.

 

I caught one as a pet once when I was younger. I put it in tupperware on my front porch. It boiled to death.

 

I love them. I will walk my lawn before mowing to make sure none are blending in and I'm going to mow them. I have also messed up my neat rows to avoid one and scare it away. They are super cool.

I like crickets, too.

Don't like spiders. There's no logic to this. The brain is weird.

Before we had cats, when we first moved in, the house and the tree line were filled with Huntsman spiders (not dangerous but they are the fuckers that will run AT YOU)... then we got the Horde and we haven't seen a single one in years. They leave the small wolf spiders and the weird neon green ones alone, but I think they know of our hatred/fear of the Huntsman and kill them on site.

TL: DR Had spiders, cats killed them, <3 cats.

 

I once saw a Praying Mantis kill a mouse...

Beans does this with all bugs except wasps and crickets. She will see the bug and give it gentle love taps with the soft tips of her paw. Tap tap tap tap. Sniff paw, walk away. Wasps though, She straight up bites the heads off of and leave decapitated wasp needles laying around to be stepped on. Crickets we only know about because we find cricket legs in piles. She eats everything but the legs and neatly piles them in one corner of the bedroom for some reason.

 

They walk like this stilt guys... like you can seem them also hesitant when they move.
