I've tried to get into that one a few times I just can't seem to stick with it. It feels very repetitive.

Well I hope my roommate can enjoy it as a game because when I pay $50 for something I want to be more immersed than just drudging through menu screens attacking and healing etc. but in that same train of thought I loved playing 12 without looking at a single cutscene or reading a single piece of text because it was fun to get my kill counter to 99, or see how long I could chain quickenings, 13 was just like here's some stuff, here's some monsters, here's -more- people you won't care about

 

FF IV, VI and VII are my old school favorites. I didn't care for X and X-2 the first time around, so the remaster is no buys. XIII had nice gameplay; the paradigm felt like a proto Birth By Sleep. I enjoyed XV quite a bit until it stopped being about the road trip.

There's def two extremes there. While I like some direction I don't necessarily want to be hand held from point a to b. At the same time I hate the completely open world games where you have no indication of where to go and it's "Up to you". I want to finish the story first then worry about optional stuff.
