A pic I sent of a friend of my shopping cart at Big Lots as we were joking about stocking up. She pointed out the massive quantity of kitty treats that I've circled for your ease of viewing. Two big containers of it and then three plus packets of their favorite flavor that didn't come in a container.

Oh, and I got toilet paper and soap and some cereal. lol.

 

You don't know the circumstances of everyone who is stocking up, though. Maybe they also live with older relatives. Maybe they just don't want to get the flu, because having the flu fucking sucks, dude.

 

It's also if the virus comes I will attack it with my new Mjolnir.

my mother was a high risk neonatal nurse, an air force pj trained nurse and emt.
she was exposed to everything and then some and imparted on me the same mentality she had

But you don't know who they will infect. Some folks are complaining about schools being closed here saying kids aren't as affected by it and if they get it it won't kill them.

But they might live with someone it could kill.

ONe of my bffs is immune compromised and has four kids in school all day long. The fear is for her health mostly. She doesn't want her kids to get it but she is truly effed if she gets it. Like, she might die if she gets it.

So.

To keep it same shit different day then yeah, precautions need to be taken now so we aren't like China and have to build a hospital in 11 days. I don't want it spreading as fast here as it did there. Certainly there are some different variables at play, but...we can be cautious. Not freaking out like crazy humans, but not everything is the same as it ever was.

See, this is a dangerous perspective though. Sure, if I get sick, I'll be fine (maybe... my lungs suck). But I also come into contact with elderly people and immunocompromised people. I can go to work with a cold without whining about it, but am I cool with getting them sick? Nah, not so much. So, it becomes much bigger than "well you won't die so don't worry about it."

 

Imagine shopping at Big Lots instead of Publix.

I agree. I'm doing my best to avoid scare tactic news and doom-mongers on social media. I just unfriended an author on Facebook because of this. He's a phenomenal writer, he makes 6 to 7 figures a year with his work, and usually he posts about writing, so I've learned a lot about writing and the business side of writing being FB friends with him. Other than that he only posts the usual, photos of his dog, vacation pics, that kind of thing. Until Coronavirus. It became clear early on that he is a doom-monger and a conspiracy theorist. I unfriended him because he was doing lengthy posts practically every hour on the hour, every single day filled with his predictions about the epidemic. There will be complete and total marshall law, death camps, the economy will entirely collapse, etc. etc. He's only friends on FB with other authors, but he has a ton of fans that follow him on FB and he was really whipping them into a frenzy! I was disgusted.

I have a cousin whose calls I and a bunch of people in the family are ignoring at this point, because he is so freaked out he's convinced we'll all be living like in the Walking Dead by summer, and he wants to talk about plans as a family for how to survive and defend ourselves. I'm not kidding. The messed up thing is, he has kids, and I can't imagine how frightened they are right now living with him!
