Well I can't answer for everywhere but in SC it's a mix of those same people who were hanging out in record stores back in 1978 and a few hipsters mixed in as well

I don't think streaming services really impact independent music stores. If they survived Columbia House, then Best Buy, the death of the CD, iTunes and the internet, I don't think a $10 Spotify membership is going to hurt them. Casual music fans haven't been their business model for like 20 years now.


A lot of stores have incorporated coffee shops and cafes. Luckily for them, most of the people shopping at independent stores (not me) are the type of consumer who's willing to pay $6 for a coffee or $8 for a turkey sandwich. You see a lot of book shops adopting the same model.
