Oh yeah, so, saw a damn bear when I was wayyyyy off course and it was PRETTY FUCKING CLOSE. Convinced myself it so totally wasn't a bear at first, wondered if it was a mountain lion or a deer...we apparently also have feral pigs (mountain lions, rattlesnakes, feral pigs, bears...oh my!)..except for the fact I was totally alone and nobody else was off trail in the same area so that giant friggen black thing that was shaking trees was 100% a bear.

I sang super loudly and luckily, we both kept our distance and I felt like I had just hallucinated in the woods till I ran into Matt's boss who asked me, "DID YOU SEE A BEAR ON indicates part of trail I was near," and I was like...yup.

Can check another thing off my list now, fun times!

If it was a black bear, those guys aren't that dangerous as long as you keep your distance. A grizzly will fuck you up, though. I recommend getting a local wildlife guidebook or something before the next time you go hiking so you know what's dangerous and what's cool, though.

I know about the black bears in this mountain range. They are pretty skittish. I just haven't ran into one until this very day. I still have no urge to get any closer to the dude and in the dense area, it was hard to tell at first what was up.

I've also ran into a rattle snake and seen a bobcat pretty recently. I'm prepared for it, it just throws you to suddenly see a bear and go, "Oh yeah. That."
