Overrated for me personally I just found out recently. The pair I've been using had them and I wanted to gut punch someone because I otherwise couldn't stand them. (And I like the high ankle version, so even more weird tbh). I didn't even notice a huge difference with them as far as the soles. (I have decent insoles that I use anyway and I like zero drop type shoes more than normal boot type)

But, HYOH as they say! Matt hikes in full boots and long pants and I'm usually running around in knee high (sometimes waterproof) hiking socks with trail tights or dri-fit shorts and trail shoes with gaiters if I need them and we can hike all the same intensity trails and scramble the same things without issue.

Hiking is such a different set of preferences for everyone and I was honestly the most miserable (and feeling a lot more discomfort tbh) when I tried to do things the same way as Matt or a hard line traditionalist. I hiked the same mountain and trails with both my trail shoes and my hiking shoes with the vibrams and I just felt so little difference and got annoyed with how much heavier those were. But that's just me and we just look like the hiking odd couple now and that's good fun I had to trudge thru a hell of a creek recently and 10/10 can reccomend sealskinz if you ever want some hardcore waterproof socks tho!

I had one where the subject was fuse and my guess was light bulb.

Everything I'd asked (incl. Is it small? Does it use electricity? Does it emit light? Is it partly made of glass? Is it partly made of metal? Does it generate heat? etc.) pointed towards it being a light bulb.

The descriptions of these two things really match up too well.

Matt just sent me like 20 texts telling me to buy the slightly older version (which is also on sale for like 30-60 bucks less from everywhere else right now in my size too for whatever reason) cause I owned the even older version of that and they were my favorite trail shoes to the point I just wore them till they fell apart and I've been pissy ever since trying to wear more beefy pairs

So, prolly gonna do that so I don't have the urge to light things on fire when I'm hiking now.
