Been reading up and listening up lately on the depression and addiction/opioid crises. America, no surprise, treats these pretty much all wrong, often furthering the problems with the treatments (e.g., most addiction is caused by the person feeling a sense of shame or lacking something, generally wanting to be anesthetized from their daily life. So they get busted, further shamed, incarcerated, removed from anything meaningful, therefore FURTHERING the addiction problem, which they can feed in prison because we can't even keep drugs out of prisons....etc....)

Giving a person a sense of belonging, of community, basically things that help make life be meaningful, removes some of the reasons people seek to anesthetize.

I feel like some online communities provide much of that, and can be an "anti depressant" in their own right, if you stop thinking of anti-depressants as just pills.
