    I used to have a modmic... but it broke... But honestly my webcam's mic is better than the modmic's lol

    I bet that they just don't want onboard laptop mics or something.. those things are normally awful. But even that isn't a hard rule.

    I am using a Samson G-Track since it was already plugged in (to lazy to reach across desk and pickup headset) but I think anything that is slightly better than a tin can and string will work as well.
