We aren't in a big metro area (boonies mountains of SoCal) but we have so many people who live here to avoid Bakersfield and surrounding areas and a ton of weekend homes and such, and you have a ton of folks who work at the spaceport who won't live in Mojave because that's a super trash town. There's just more demand than property available cause everyone wants to live out here to avoid the more smoggy, busy and/or trashy areas. They are throwing up so many more apartments now to accomodate demand so even more people can flock here and if you want any amount of land, it's immediately a shit show lol. The population used to be under 5k and now it's 3x that. There's also a hysterical ratio of dudes to chicks. It's like 10.5k dudes to 4k women right now, so if you want a husband, come to my town! Most of our friends rent houses with multiple roomates because there just isn't much out here compared to the amount of folks that want to live here. This dude is buying up apartment buildings (ours included) who wants to expand so even more folks can come live here. I'm not sure what this area will look like in 10 years tbh, I have a feeling it's gonna get more crowded and less sleepy mountain town.
