I'm not sure what you mean? For the most part you plug them in and you use them.

 

thanks for the reply! I only have one place to hook up a monitor on my computer..( I think!)...I guess what I mean is how do you make it work? I used an external screen with my old laptop but both screens showed the same thing? thanks again!

 

Right click on desktop -> Display options - > whatever settings you need from there

 

Press windows + p and change it to extend
