Rather I saw my parents fucking themself with credit cards lmao they are better now but I saw what not to do.

 

interesting you say that. My dad got me a debit card to give me any money I got from odd jobs or chores or w/e and to teach me about money and it really made my finances the way the are today</humblebrag>. Seeing you say that reinforces my thought that introducing kids to cards early is a good way to go

 

Meanwhile my dad's in his 50s and still has no idea how to save money or how to spend it.

 

My parents are fine now but I like to say that they brute forced themselves through their finances. They have plenty of money for stuff but they should be a lot better off than they currently are due to past debts.

Even after my dad taught me right he got himself in debt and is almost 60 with massive health issues and probably won't be able to retire on time.

damn interns

 

My parents were secretive about money. It was weird as hell but I didn't realize how weird it was til I was in my late 20s and saw how other families worked. Lol!

That's what we'll do if we ever have a kid, probably in their early teens. Get them a credit card with our name and their name on it. That way when their 18 they'll have a head-start with their credit and hopefully be decent at budgeting. At least know more than I did at that age.

 

My dad struggled with garnished wages trying to repay a loan he shouldn't have taken and now I'm feeling about the same way toward him. He knows he has issues managing his money, though, and is willing to let me or my sister manage for him once he gets his retirement money.

Like 5 years ago my father opened up to me what state his finances were really in (I was flabbergasted) and I ended up being the one to tell him what to do and go to the on base financial adviser and some other things :emoji_facepalm:

Well, lesson learned as to what not to do

 

My dad handled all of the money and bills and didn't really keep my mom and I informed. When he passed away we had no real money sense and went through it like they were going to stop printing it. I'm trying to keep myself on track but I'm still too impulsive.
