Several members of my family died or ruined their lives over alcohol. I don't touch it, because I saw myself going down that path in my early twenties. My husband hasn't had a drink since our daughter was born (3 years ago next month). He went through the entire process, the shakes, being sick, all of it. He hated life for several days. But you get past it. You get stronger. And it is worth it, I promise.

its going to suck. I used to go out constantly, partied ALL the time. Now I don't. At first it was because it was hard when everyone else was drinking. Now it's just no fun to be the only sober person. But I made different friends, who aren't about partying or can have a few drinks without forcing them on me.

Also when I finally quit, and I mean truly quit, it took months for my dopamine threshold to reset. It's a real thing, with most addicts in general. Life was really shitty for a long time. Then eventually, I started enjoying things again. Now I know, even if erica dumped me (not that I think she will), I won't pick up the bottle again because I finally love myself again.

I think that it stopped when I turned 21 and told my brother and his friends that the girly af drink he gave me was gross and refused it after a sip. The thing is though that a lot of people will fall to peer pressure so >.> people are shitty.

A ton of family members have issues with drinking so it was a good idea to stop. I'll let video games be my addiction since that isn't hurting anyone. I've been obsessed with drinking especially since I turned 21 and have spent way too much going downtown at bars. I've tried to justify it but I need to stop.

You definitely need to, and you're going to. You can go out and party with your friends again, even if they drink, but its hard in the beginning. You need to cut that shit out of your life, and tell your loved ones why so they don't drink around you.

When I told my mother I was an alcoholic and still struggling with my relapsing all the time she continued to drink around me. I don't talk to me mother very much.

Legit, WoW became my replacement. If I got all shitty and wanted to go get a drink, I'd log on and go into the nerd out world for a bit. Sometimes it is okay to find a crutch, addiction is hard af.

I have noticed that most nerdy af groups are fairly light on drinking to none at all even. Have you considered going to a local comic place to play D&D with people instead of a bar?

I mean I don't know how much that advice will help you I just have noticed that people like me are a lot more common in the nerdy af groups. Also you are a gamer so you would prob enjoy D&D and it is cheap to free depending on who is running it.

yeah my caffeine intake definitely took a sharp rise after quitting. I got that back to not-going-to-have-a-heart-attack levels thankfully
