Also fair... I didn't haaaaate the hobbit movies, and I know Peter Jackson was given a pretty hard task in adapting them, but it was exceedingly sad that they needed to shoehorn in extra "audience appeal" stuff, and cut so much interesting content.

Definitely not my least favorite movies, but they didn't do the Hobbit justice.

There is that upcoming LOTR series through... I wanna say Amazon? I'm curious about that. Not the highest of hopes, but it should be worth the watch at least.

I'm really upset that they took a whimiscal adventure and made it into some epic action trilogy. Also missed the chance for dwarven throat singing.

Yeah agreed. The Hobbit book had it's serious moments, but at it's core (because that's what it was) it was in the style of a story you would tell your kid when they were going to sleep. More about the journey and character growth than the content, and especially more about the journey than the action. The action in the book was so sincere because it was well spaced, and not overdone. Each location you visit on the journey had it's core "OH SHIT" section, but it was mostly pretty whimsical, if not pretty dark. It was about being a confused little hobbit in this big ass world. I feel like they approached it as wanting to make it bigger and grander than the LOTR series was, which is the wrong way to look at it, as it emphasizes the wrong qualities.

Idk, I enjoyed it somewhat, but the tone was way off, I definitely agree there.

I will definitely travel to Colorado for that purpose (offer valid only during hockey season). But since they are distributed here too, let me know if you want me to throw any your way! I can definitely do that.

I did really like their version of Misty Mountains Cold though, if I'm being honest. I know it wasn't totally faithful, but it just gave me chills.

Yeah, haha. Beautiful in it's own way though, imo.

Also if you haven't read/watched the interview with Jackson about it, he's pretty candid on why he thought the films had problems, it's interesting:

The Princess Bride was a whimsical adventure. Hobbit/LOTR, not so much.

Have you actually read The Hobbit? LOTR wasn't whimsical, The Hobbit was.

And now the intro to "Rugrats: All Growed Up" is stuck in my head, but somehow sung by Ed Sheeran, thanks for that.
