This is the thing: It looks like Irma hits you no matter which path she takes, and she hits you at a 4. Seems to be moving fast enough to be a wind event rather than a rain event, so there is literally *nothing* you can do for that house if you stay in it. Get supplies. Make sure everything outside is inside, or tied down really well. Get plywood to cover the windows. Put valued furniture up on concrete blocks and covered with a tarp in case you lose some of the roof and water gets in. Ziplock bags and plastic totes are your friend. Then GTFO of Florida. if you have no one to stay with, this is a beautiful time of year to go camping, even if it's car camping. Read up on living out of your car. It's only for a week or so. People who CAN leave now and don't make it so much harder for those who have trouble leaving, or for whatever reason cannot leave until it gets closer. It looks like this thing will turn and head up Florida, so a HUGE number of people could be evacuating this week.

There are things called extenuating circumstances that while they are not explicitly spelled out factor into whether or not you consider that a reason for staying. In declared states of emergency and eminent threats to life, I say get your shit together and be ready to head out if you have the ability and whatever it is will be waiting/work itself out in the end. Because personally I would not enjoy pulling your corpse out of a palm tree.
