I think because largely, there has been a shift in people preferring dark themes on things as a whole. Most people didn't really mention it until a few years back, and now the majority of people (perceptively) are dark or gtfo.

There's a huge push for proper dark theme support on android too which has them really simplifying their core apps visually, to seemingly accommodate it soon.

It's weird, but suddenly everyone clamoring for it.

I kind of get it personally, now that I've made the switch on most things, even though I'm not really prone to eye strain either or anything. I think it's just generally something that UIs are moving to.

I personally like everything to be light theme because it seems more bright and open and I prefer that in most things.

I used to stay up all night on the computer when I was a kid which is why I used the dark themes. Now I use the windows light thingie maggigy, but I'm not really on the computer at night in the dark anyways.

I do use the reddit dark theme because I almost always am browsing reddit on my phone at night, in bed.

 

your standards for "nice" seem to be super low.

Things like f.lux and the built in windows one are great for that.

Not criticizing your choices at all, you just got me thinking about why there is such an uptick in people rawrrrring about light themes in things.
