I was a kiddo when I saw that so it was still a fun fact for me, but YEAH, I know a lot of people who think Greenland is substantially bigger than it is, that africa is smaller than it is, that europe is bigger, etc etc etc. The mercator projection shows things in such a warped way that it's not that bizarre, because most people aren't really checking out the land mass by numbers.

We had a trivia night where you had to name the the 10 biggest countries by land mass and I will never forget being told I was stupid for saying Algeria, Kazakhstan, and Argentina were definitely in the top 10. They crossed out my answers and we lost by a point. I WAS SO MAD. Literally a bunch of fairly well educated people telling me I was stupid because I think Argentina is a big country. Mind blown. I'm also still mad we lost. I wanted my free bar tabs for a month.
