10/17 - Tremendous Tuesday!

Anyone remember those HITs from a couple years back where you collaborated with like 10 other people and you all worked together to fix/edit DMV handbooks?

Just had a random thought about those. Those were fun.

 

imho, it would be a lot easier (or at least less time-intensive) to write new scripts that do the same thing on worker than it would be to change and apply every existing (read: sometimes already-janky-ass) script.

 

For an example of why React is a PITA for script/extension developers:

A regular web script updates something (say, the work timer) by identifying some element and changing its value.

React makes this more complicated:

- Sometimes it will behave the same as the above.
- Sometimes it will instead remove the element entirely and then replace it (depending on a number of factors, including the length of the element, the version of the browser you're using, how often the library sees that that the element is updating, which version of React the site has been updated to use...)
- Sometimes it will remove the parent element of the element and replace that.
- etc.

React is very fast, and always tries to find the "fastest" way to do something, because "the DOM is slow".

If mTurk scripters had to cut their teeth on the new site, we'd have even less mTurk scripters than we do now.
