10/30 - Turnabout Tuesday!

5th Wednesday's of the month are slow. I used to ride my bike to go buy comics. All those early 90s X-Men books so folded up by time I got home.

 

I mean, if he's already coming up to you, you can probably just bribe him with food and non-threatening cuddles and such. Bearnie was not a fan of love and I basically had to burrito him in a fleece throw blanket so he couldn't freak out and run and keep him close to me for periods of time. I would feed him tiny bits of tuna and chicken and stuff like that and talk to him in soothing tones (I would sing to him too, cause i'm lame). He would fight me less and less and I could just tote him with me around. He still wasn't AMPED but would tolerate me and liked the food. I went a little loony toons and read that the scent of tuna was alluring to kitties and a feral might respond if you put some tuna on yourself like perfume. I'm not saying I tuna perfumed myself but shortly after I totally didn't do that, this happened:

I still hand feed him bits of food to this day, as I feel it would be rude to change the terms of our relationship now. If the cat is coming up to you, I'd just keep up with the happy, but calm voice and bribery (especially food) is a huge motivator. I used to talk to Bearnsicle when he would wander near me or if I noticed he was keeping an eye on me, and he definitely started coming around more and more. If he comes up to you while you're sleeping, go with it! Nice, calm pets and love will make the little dude come around. Bearnie was a fighter and used to literally squish under the dishwasher to avoid humans, so he was a bit far gone as far as ferals went and the vet told me he was at the age where he might not stop acting feral. OH! I also taught my cats to boop as a greeting! I read tha cats like to bump noses as a hello and a human could do this by reaching out a finger to them. All my cats do it now, and will reflexively boop if you reach out a finger towards their nose when they come by. If you refuse their offer to boop, they will full on shun you. Bearnie would boop me back before he was a full mushy little ham.
