    One time we brought one of those GPS dashboard mounts that has a weighted base and sits on the dashboard.

    Apparently those little beads that are in the base of that thing look like a shit ton of shrapnel on the x-ray. Who knew?

    Also pro-tip for international travel. Find a mobility impaired british grandmother to travel with. You get to go through the TSA Pre-check line (without having to do the pre-check) stuff with her AND if you're re-entering the country in Seattle, a nice airport employee will escort you through the labyrinth of mazes and people movers you need to get through customs and find your connecting gate.

    Does not help with angry customs agents though. Those guys are just dicks.

    Earlier this year we were on a flight to a figure skating competition. Now, FYI, TSA's web site says up, down, left, right, and center, ice skates are permitted as carry-on bags. At my daughter's level a pair of skates are typically around $800 to $1000 including boots and blades, and you can't just go to the local sporting goods store to buy a replacement pair if something happens. So, the girls are taking skates on board with them.

    By the time we got there, we knew full well there'd already been at least 20 or 30 skaters go through the exact same checkpoint, because all the girls were texting and all the parents were updating status on Facebook. But, no, the agents had a fit and were going to make us check the skate bags. That quickly became tense.

    Not helping the situation - my wife and I were escorting two other skaters whose parents had to fly out later. And one of them had bits of metal in her ankle. Yes, she set off the checkpoint alarm. Yes, she was a minor. No, we did not have any paperwork or documents to say she was legally allowed to be with us. Yes, this caused more tension.

    Ugh.

    One of my clients once told me he must have had meth in his shampoo and that's why he tested positive for meth. So yes, you need to put your drug laden shampoo in a bagee. lol
