Haha.. Welcome to the forum! Enjoy story time from an "old-timer" (sorry you used veteran.. either way I'm not, was just adding it for dramatic effect) who is still a baby by mTurk standards:

So for about 2 years (maybe longer) they didn't hand out masters, to anyone, for any reason. So what ended up happening is people drudged up any report of Masters being granted "by mistake" they could. People have gotten it with <5,000 approved HITs. While their* accounts were suspended. All kinds of crazy stuff.

So workers latched onto that + the fact it was a dead system to perpetuate the fact that "Masters is a scam!" which - you can go either way on it. I've talked to some Requesters who swear by it, but most say using 98% + 5,000-10,000 approved is sufficient if not better.

Super duper old school Masters (@jessers) always told us it was overrated and not a big deal. They're horrible liars (I'm being super sarcastic here) and its actually the greatest thing ever, but its not really "worth" the 2x fee increase to use it when other free quals/strategies can give similar/better results.

Amazon touts it as one thing, but it most certainly does not live up to the hype so-to-speak, so most folks give it a good crack as low hanging joke fruit.

I really had honestly run out of amusing things to spend money on at that point in time and thought that it would make me laugh. It was actually a lot of fun to see all those dudes reactions to someone who had a full collection of rare and expensive deagles.

Absolutely not, Im what you call a power user of mturk, I grind the hell out of it every week day, i have been only turking for 2 and a half months and i cant make more then roughly $30 a day.

 

Ah, didn't realize they were virtual. I was off-put by the "Factory New". Though, that does explain the price on them
