I am so sorry my windows broke you

I'm in Kansas and so while it is very fucking humid seeming in the summer, I don't think it's quite that bad.

 

Haha.. yeah sadly 3/4 of our state is legit swampland.. so..

They do look so good though.. well in pictures at least. BUT I KNOW THEIR TRUE NATURE

I actually used to even hate the way they looked, but that was when I lived with my mom and the house was garbage, so it just looked trashy and old. But in my house I love the way they look in the living room in particular, with the colors I have going and everything. Now in my daughter's room where everything is pink&white&gold, they look out of place. And in my room where it's grey and black and red, same problem. So eventually i'll probably transition MOST of the windows over to vinyl, but god do they look good in that living room.

Right!? They look so good in the right light/coloring. Its like a warm color to 'em, love it in winter so much! Then I have a random pee yellow room and.. nothing good has ever come from looking in it.

Whatever you do, don't try painting them white. It looks fantastic. For about 1 week. Then you realize just how much air they leak.. and in just how many weird places they leak it.

Vinyl windows sound great

I still don't quite get the fascination with double-hung windows in general.. has anyone actually ever used the top half? I haven't

My living room is an off-white beige? type color called "creme fraiche" by behr. The wood looks so nice up against it, especially with wooden hutch/wooden corner stand/tan couches.

Vinyl are really nice, before we bought the house we lived in government housing, so they keep everything really nicely maintained and updated and everything. They had vinyl windows and the ones they had were damn near soundproof, and tinted. I loved them so much.

The only thing double hung windows are good for is pissing me off when the top slides down in the middle of the night and makes me freeze

I did in my old house, but then my fat ass cat would jump on the window sill and immediatly fall out any open window braking the screen and looking at me like i did him wrong.

 

I use them! If used right they flow air really well through the house so you can keep the AC off longer into spring/summer. We had a few days without AC, and I'd never had double hung windows before, so I googled how to really use them (I knew there had to be a purpose). It dropped the temp in the house 10 degrees in like an hour.

 

Seriously? I need to remember this next spring. I try to keep the AC off as long as possible, but I so don't do heat. And now having a Husky we especially can't let the house get too hot, or he could overheat.
