I don't remember the last time I was actually offended by anything.

 

Offense doesn't have to be meant for you to be legitimately offended by it.

Just like if somebody accidentally stabs you with something because they aren't paying attention, they didn't MEAN to make you bleed, but you are still actually bleeding.

It's both good and bad that it's hard to notice at first. I had a boss get mad at me for having it(I got it right before I started that job) even though it was fully displayed in the interview and it took him over a month to notice

But that's not the only person involved. it's like if you're on the road and you see someone driving erratically, and you take no precaution around that person (i.e., making an effort to put extra distance between you and them), you're partially to blame if you happen to get in a wreck with that person.

The meaning you get from things is partially based in reality, and partially in interpretation. But some people have such a powerful filter in their minds that it has a more significant influence than the "reality" part.
