That kind of batch has multiples of the same hits so multiple turkers can work the same hits. Usually it's a majority rules type hit. So say it's a batch of 100, each hit has 10 slots. You can work all 100 if you get to them first. Sometimes when the slots of the hits get taken up quickly, you'll see the number of the actual batch start to dwindle.
