I hear you. I just got back from my first eye exam in almost three years. Even if you can't afford new glasses, if your eyes are really bad that means they're more prone to problems like retinal tears/holes, so you should at least go and get the doctor to check for general eye health. Ask me how I know. On a related note, it looks like I'll be having retinal surgery on New Year's Eve.

I've always known that having rubbish eyesight = more delicate retinas, and holes/tears are a bigger risk. So even if you can't afford new lenses, make sure you're getting checked by the doctor.

 

My Rx is crazy expensivo, too. Purchased them online from goggles4u I think when they had 50% off glasses, and they were less than $40. My Rx is -6.x or so with astigmatism. They're not the greatest looking, but after years of pushing off a purchase because I couldn't afford it, I can finally see a lot better and my head don't hurt no more.
