Oh no I'm so worried sometimes because I think we are really close to that cutoff of not being able to get help, and when you fall in that area just over it it really sucks because you can't -actually- afford things, they just think you can.

I have the not being able to shut off problem too, and when I lay in bed with nothing to distract me it turns really bad and I stay thinking about things nobody wants to think about (someone breaking in, the house catching on fire, etc). Before I got my anxiety medication I would just take kind of a lot (but not like a dangerous amount) of the OTC sleeping pills long enough before bed time that by bed time I couldn't fight sleeping even if I tried. It's horrid to not be able to do anything about it, I hope something happens for you soon.

Dude, I'm loving the school break so much. I sleep like two hours later and it feels like the best thing in the world.

I'm not sure if my dad liked me or not, he was my stepdad and it wasn't until my 30s that I realized all the hunting and fishing he did with me was to keep my mom from being jealous, because she was crazy. I may have spent more time on the Great Lakes than a commercial fisherman, and by the time I was 18 I wouldn't join the Marines because I had already frozen my ass off in a wet foxhole (deer blind) clasping a rifle, so naturally I joined the Navy where we bring our air-conditioned beds, showers, and 4 hot meals a day with us.

In 8th grade Art we had a project to rub a relief into copper, age it, then mount it. So I knew this was finally an Art project I could like and it would be perfect for a deer scene. So I used my paper-route money to buy a good piece of copper, pretty expensive, and an old board. Then I spent like 2 weeks of class time rubbing the copper out on towels with a nice whitetaile deer, some trees, a stream... it wasn't bad at all and was definitely the best piece of art I've ever done. Then we soaked it in a corrosive chemical to age it, and I mounted it on an old piece of barn board.

It was fuckin' awesome! I was blown away.

So I give it to my dad and he's not even embarassed he just sort of looks at it and says thanks. My mom didn't even get after him. I immediately put it out of my mind (which means I was used to that type of shit now I think of it), and years later, home on leave in fact, I found it in his back room under some stuff. Something had been placed on it and the copper was all smushed in and flattened. Ruined.

WTF? Why? Why would you do that? I mean how could you?

I'm not upset but honestly more confused.

It's been years now but I have to admit now that when I was 25 or so and my sister said not even a single piece of our artwork ever got put on the fridge, I wrote her off as a whiner. Turns out she was right.

That said in the 70s and early 80s we used to get beat. I mean like beat with belts, fly swatters, spoons, and hands. By the mid-80s that was getting to be no and by the time I was a teenager I was wild enough my parents were afraid to. So I can say I avoided physical abuse but until I was 10 or 12, especially when we were little, daily beatings, several times a day. Slightest misbehavior, ass or face smacked, and the only difference is how many times and how hard. Not at all uncommon in those days. I witnessed my friends getting much worse and I have a story for that.
